<p>This invention claims a method for treating periodontal disease in mammals, including humans, by administering an effective amount of 4-amino-1-hydroxybutylidene-1,1-bisphosphonic acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt including the monosodium salt tridydrate (alendronate) of formula (I). The compounds are useful in the treatment of alveolar bone loss associated with periodontitis and periodontal disease.</p> |
