PURPOSE: To modify phospholipid of low-density lipoprotein(LDL) in blood and rapidly remove LDL from bloodstream by catabolic process by administering therapeutically effective amount of an enzyme capable of hydrolyzing sn-2 fat acylester bond of phosphoglyceride to a subject. CONSTITUTION: In this method for lowering the concentration of low-density lipoprotein(LDL) in blood of a subject, an enzyme (e.g. phospholipase A2 ) capable of hydrolyzing sn-2 fatty acylester bond of phosphoglyceride is selected and a therapeutically effective amount of the enzyme is administered to vein, etc., of the subject and sn-2 fatty acylester bond of phosphoglyceride of LDL in blood is modified into plasma LDL by hydrolysis and as a result, the modified LDL is rapidly removed from bloodstream by in vivo catabolic process. Thereby, hypercholesterolemic patient is inexpensively treated without using an expensive method such as plasma conversion, affinity chromatography or immobilized enzyme-containing reactor.
