PURPOSE:To industrially and advantageously obtain the subject compound in high yield by reacting an aldehyde having a holoalkyl as a raw material with an alkali metallic salt of acetoacetic acid in the presence of a catalyst in a mixed solvent of water with a sparingly water-soluble organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (R1 is haloalkyl) (e.g. chloroacetoaldehyde) as a starting raw material is made to react with a compound of formula II (M is alkali metal) in the presence of a catalyst in a mixed solvent of water with a sparingly water-soluble organic solvent (e.g. dichloromethane) to provide the objective alpha,beta-unsaturated ketone of formula III (e.g. a compound of formula IV). As the catalyst, pyrrolidine, dimethylamine, methylhexylamine, etc., is used. |
