PURPOSE:To use this solid laser beam machine as a heat source having a fine area or a fixed shape by intervening liquid crystal light control elements between an exit end unit and a material to be machined. CONSTITUTION:Laser beam 12 enters the exit end unit 9 through a glass fiber 6 and a material 11 to be machined is irradiated with the laser beam through a condenser lens. The liquid crystal light control elements 10 are intervened between this exit end unit 9 and the material 11 to be machined. The liquid crystal light control elements 10 are composite elements dispersed in resin matrix. When the electric field is off, the liquid crystal enters a random state, the laser beam 12 is scattered and when the electric field is actuated, the liquid crystal is oriented in the electrolytic direction, enters a transparent state and transmits the laser beam 12. One element can be made up of a piece of several microns. When the electric field of the constituent elements is turned on/off as occasion demands, the laser beam can be put arbitrarily in a fixed state and take a beam diameter smaller than the beam diameter by the combination of optical systems of lenses. |
