<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which can continuously change characteristics, such as brightness, of displayed images and a display method, and a projection display device. <P>SOLUTION: The display device has a light source 10 capable of time sequentially emitting a plurality of different color light and white light, and an optical modulating means 40 for modulating the light in correspondence to each light emitted from the light source 10.
