A brake device comprising an ultrasonic motor having a rotor rotatable by an elastic traveling wave generated by a piezoelectric vibrator on a stator of the motor, and torque converting means for converting a rotating torque produced by said ultrasonic motor into a pressing force for pressing a friction member against a member to be braked, which is transmitted to said friction member.
