A process for preparing an igniting agent for ignition coal comprises (a) crushing the dry bark of palm or the coconut shell to obtain a fiber wad, (b) heating the wad in 6-8 % NaOH soln. at 80-90 deg.C for 6 hrs. or at room temp. for 4-5 days to separate the pulpy substance, (c) neutralizing it with 10 % HCl soln., (d) soaking it in 15 % KNO3 soln. for 2-3 hrs., (e) dehydrating and drying it to obtain fiber substance, (f) cutting the fiber to be 3- 5 cm length, (g) mixing the obtd. fiber with 20 % charcoal powder and 1 % plant glue, and (h) press-drying the obtd. material and sticking it on the ignition coal.
