PRODUCTION OF FIBER REINFORCED THERMOPLASTIC RESIN SHEET

PURPOSE:To obtain a fiber reinforced thermoplastic resin sheet wherein a thermoplastic resin is uniformly and sufficiently infiltrated in a fiber and the irregularity of thickness, weight or physical properties is reduced. CONSTITUTION:A large number of roving-like glass reinforcing fiber bundles F1 are passed through a fluidized tank 2 storing a compound powder R of a vinyl chloride resin and the resin powder R is bonded to the reinforcing fiber bundles F1. The reinforcing fiber bundles F2 having the resin powder R bonded thereto are cut by a rotary cutter 8 and allowed to fall on an endless belt 11 to be aggregated in a sheetlike form. The rotary cutter 8 is arranged so that the rotary shaft 8' thereof crosses the lateral (II) direction of the endless belts 11 and the reinforcing fiber bundles F2 are cut while the rotary cutter 8 is reciprocally moved in the lateral direction of the endless belt 11. The aggregate F4 of the cut reinforcing fibers F3 is passed through a heating oven 12 while held between endless belts 10, 11 to melt the resin powder R and subsequently cooled by a cooling blower 13 to obtain the objective fiber reinforced thermoplastic resin sheet S.
