PURPOSE:To achieve a sure connection between tunnels excavated opposed to each other by inserting an interior hood built in the front part of one excavator into an inner wall of a shield tube of the other excavator. CONSTITUTION:An interior hood 4 built in the front part of a shield tube 2 is provided to slide back and forth by a jack 8 and a bulkhead frame 6 slid back and forth by a jack 9 is disposed inside the hood 4. Then, a slidable bulkhead 7 is provided on the frame 6 to be slid by a jack 25 in the direction orthogonal to the excavating direction. Next, a parallel crank-like excavating tool 18 driven by an eccentric drive shaft 30 is provided on the bulkhead 7. The opposed tunnel side excavator is not provided with the hood 4 and a hood stopper consisting of an annular packing is provided along the inner periphery of the front part of the shield tube. In joining the tunnels, the bulkhead 7 is moved to the center part to form a hood 4 inserting space therearound. After retreating the frame 6, the hood 4 is inserted into the shield tube of the opposed side excavator to abut against the hood stopper, so that tunnels can be connected to each other safely and surely. |
