PURPOSE: To prevent water from entering a vapor vent volume and to achieve improvements in nuclear reaction and heat transfer by providing a separator in a vapor discharge path below an upper tie plate on a partial length fuel rod supported on a fuel bundle. CONSTITUTION: A moderator passes through a lower tie plate L at an opening determined between matrixes of a fuel rod F. This flow of water is limited by a channel C and runs outside through an upper tie rate U. While the moderator passes upward through a fuel bundle B, steam is generated, the proportion thereof gradually increases and finally, the release of water and vapor occurs after passage of the steam through the upper tie plate U. An open space 14 is defined in the fuel bundle B on a partial length fuel rod P. A separator D separates water entering the vapor discharged upward within the space 14 or accompanying it by splashing. This enables obtaining of a better steam discharging effect without setting the partial length fuel rod P spaced at an interval.
