PURPOSE:To prevent last in-extinction display information from being displayed together on a display when display information is turned ON by displaying a screen clearing pattern when the display information is turned OFF from a host system. CONSTITUTION:When a CLK 3 is inputted to a data processing part 7 and a data signal 4 and an ON/OFF signal 5 are inputted from the host system, an AND circuit 15 inputs a data signal 16. Then display data corresponding to the data from the host system are transferred, line by line, as a signal 18 to an X-side driver 11 in order. A Y-side driver 10 drives horizontal electrodes according to the address of a scanning control part 6 and the X-side driver 11 drives vertical electrodes according to the display data transferred in order. Consequently, the selected horizontal electrodes and vertical electrodes are impressed with write/erasure voltage pulses superposed upon a maintaining voltage from a display power source generation part to display information based upon the display data on the plasma display 12 by illumination.
