The method, usable on a satellite, makes it possible periodically to measure the residual volume of liquid in a closed pressurised tank containing the liquid, which is progressively withdrawn and a gas which is weakly miscible with the liquid. The pressure in the tank (10) is permanently prevented from falling below a predetermined value P. On each measurement: the tank is connected to a source of the gas under a pressure which is greater than the internal pressure P by a predetermined increment DELTA P which is small compared to P, via a flow-rate limiter constriction; the time taken for the internal pressure to rise to P+ DELTA P is measured; and the volume of gas and therefore of liquid is calculated therefrom. <IMAGE>
