Sorption process useful in treatment of effluent and sewage - using hydrotalcite layer cpd. as sorption agent for removing weakly polar and non-polar organic substances from polar medium

Sorption process uses cationic hydrotalcite type layer cpd. having undergone hydrophobic treatment using anionic agents as sorption agent. The layer cpd. is pref. hydrotalcite, having undergone anionic hydrophobic treatment using fatty acids esp. 4-36C fatty acids. The polar medium is pref. effluent water and contains less than 1000 ppm. weakly polar or non-polar substances, which are present in soln. or as a colloidal dispersion. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is of use in the treatment of effluent and sewage e.g. in the waterproofing of soil and the protection of ground water at waste disposal sites. The layer cpd. is biodegradable, relatively cheap and non-biocidal
