The use is claimed of glycerinmonoalkyl ethers as skin-care additives, partic. for cosmetic cleaning and care compsns. Pref. the ethers are of formula (I), where R = 3-14C alkyl. Pref. R = 5-12C opt. branched alkyl, esp. 1-heptyl, 1-(2- ethylhexyl), 1-octyl, 1-decyl or 1-dodecyl. The cosmetic prod. contains 0.01-10 (most pref. 0.5-3) wt.% (I). USE/ADVANTAGE - The prod. prevents drying of the skin, regulates the moisture content, provides sufficient fat and imparts a pleasant touch to the skin. (I) is used as an aq. and/or alcoholic soln. or as an emulsion with a mixt. of surfactant such as emulsifiers and/or other additives. Cosmetic prods. include solid or liquid soaps, showerbath, shower gel, foam bath, shampoo, wash lotion, cream, after-shave etc.
