The appts. includes at least one brush (6) with a drive and movable axially and peripherally w.r.t. the pipes (14) for removing scale from the pipes' outer surfaces. Each two diametrically opposed brushes may be mounted on a rotatable carrier (18) which encloses a pipe. The appts. pref. includes a flushing and cooling medium feed which can pass via the brush shaft. USE - Esp. for preparing pipes for ultrasonic, non-destructive material testing.
