Ignition timing control for IC engine of motor vehicle - uses ignition timing angle characteristic and correction characteristic addressed by selected gear ratio

The ignition timing control uses an ignition timing angle characteristic, which is addressed in dependence on the detected engine load and the engine r.p.m. at least for the low and medium speed and load ranges. The timing angle characteristic is corrected for the low and medium r.p.m. and load ranges by a correction angle characteristic addressed by the selected gear ratio to obtain improved running characteristics and ride comfort. Pref. the selected gear ratio is calculated from the detected engine r.p.m. and the vehicle velocity. ADVANTAGE - Combines fuel economy and comfortable ride.
