System to grip winding start of web - holds winding start between two long thin bars and presses these into longitudinal slit in circumference of winding mandrel

In a device to grip the winding start of sheeting from split ring collars on a variable dia. winding mandrel the mandrel concerned has a slit on its circumference running parallel to its axis and this holds the winding start; the start is held in a clamping strip which is inserted axially into the slit and can be moved out again. The cross-section of the winding mandrel with its slit (3) on the circumference where the winding start (2) is gripped by the strip (5) which is inserted there. The strip (5) consists of two long bars (7, 8) attached together at their ends, so clamping the winding start between them. The bars (7, 8) are fixed together by the connector (10) which is operated by the pressing plate of an upper arrangement; this plate is round the winding mandrel. A component at the other end of the bars (7, 8) opens them to release the wound start. ADVANTAGE - The device holds the winding start securely but witbout causing wear at the holding slit. It therefore cuts out winding problems such as wander.
