Herbicide consists of 5-25% of carbamate active ingredient, 40-80% of solvent mixt. based on a strongly polar water-soluble component and sparingly water-soluble, oil-soluble component, 5-20% of an oil-soluble resin to inhibit crystallisation, 5-30% emulsifiers and so that the sum of the components is 100%. Pref. the active ingredient is methyl-3-(3-tolylcarbamoyloxy) phenyl carbonate (Phenmediphan). The solvent mixt. consists of 10-20% strongly polar water-soluble solvent and 30-60% of the sparingly water-soluble oil-soluble solvent. The water-soluble solvent is DMF, DMSO, N-methyl-pyrrolidone or hexamethyl phosphoric acid triamide. The oil-soluble solvent is an alkyl ethanoate (or mixt. of alkyl ethanoates) esp. octylethanoate. The crystallisation inhibitor is oil-soluble resin chosen from phenol/formaldehyde or cyclohexanone- or methyl cyclohexanone/formaldehyde resins. USE/ADVANTAGE - The herbicide is used to combat unwanted plant growth, esp. in beet crops. It is less toxic than previously used prods. and has smaller tendency to recrystallise. Relatively high concns. of active ingredient are stabilised.
