An aerial cable serving as an earth conductor in overhead transmission lines also encloses three optical fibres (5,6,7) for the telecommunication of operational information. A steel core (1) is surrounded by three steel cores (2,3,4). Twelve hard aluminium cores (9) on the outside form a self-supporting ring which prevents a transfer of any clamping pressure by the rope clamp (10) on the optical fibres. The latter have an additional lining (12) of polyetherimide.
