<p>A mesomorphic compounds represented by the following formula (I): R1-A1-X1-A2-X2-A3-R2 (I), wherein R1 and R2 independently denote hydrogen, halogen,-CN, <CHEM> or a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 - 18 carbon atoms capable of including one or non-neighboring two or more -CH2-groups which can be replaced with -O-, -S-, <CHEM> -CH=CH- or -C IDENTICAL C-, said linear or branched alkyl group being capable of including hydrogen which can be replaced with fluorine; X1 and X2 independently denote a single bond, -O-, <CHEM> -CH2O-, -OCH2-, -CH2CH2- or -C IDENTICAL C-; A1, A2 and A3 independently denote a single bond, <CHEM> wherein R3 and R4 independently denote hydrogen, halogen, -CN or a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 - 18 carbon atoms capable of including one or non-neighboring two or more -CH2- groups which can be replaced with -O-, -S-, <CHEM> -CH=CH- or -C IDENTICAL C-, said linear or branched alkyl group being capable of including hydrogen which can be replaced with fluorine; Y1 and Y2 independently denote, H, F, Cl, Br, -CH3, CF3 or -CN; Z denotes O or S; and at least one of A1, A2 and A3 is <CHEM> and the remaining two of A1 , A2 add A3 cannot be a single bond simultaneously; and with the proviso that: (i) -A1-X1-A2-X2-A3- is not <CHEM> (ii) X1 and X2 are not an ester group simultaneously when A1 is <CHEM> and A2 and A3 are <CHEM> and (iii) X1 and X2 are not an ester group simultaneously when A3 is <CHEM> and A1 and A2 are <CHEM> <IMAGE></p> |
