A device for heating a space, such as a house, comprises: a casing; a burner which is positioned in the said casing; a feed for air from the said space, which is connected to the underside of the casing; a discharge for combustion gases, which is connected to the top side of the casing and in which first ventilator means are accommodated; a feed for outside air, which is connected to the casing and is in communication, via second ventilator means, with a discharge for external air, for supplying this air to the space, and a heat exchanger, through one end of which hot combustion gases flow and through the other end of which cold external air flows in order for this to be heated. The device according to the invention is characterized in that the housing is divided into a bottom compartment, in which the burner is positioned, and a top compartment, in which the heat exchanger is positioned, which two compartments are separated by a wall with a first passage for the combustion gases and a second passage with a non- return valve which opens in the event of a pressure in the bottom compartment rising to a certain amount higher than that in the top compartment.
