A sheet registration and feeding apparatus includes sheet stacking means for compiling sheets delivered serially thereto into a stack, the sheet stacking means comprising a support surface (36), registering means (35) for registering sheets to form a registered stack and sheet separator-feeder means for separating and feeding sheets seriatim from the compiled stack to a feeder (33) for feeding the sheets along a sheet path away from the support surface (36). There is provided in accordance with embodiments of the invention interposing means in the form of a pivotally mounted elongate member (38) with hooked fingers (44) at one end thereof adapted to intercept an incoming sheet fed onto the support surface (36) or onto the stack whereby the incoming sheet is intercepted by the fingers (44) without interrupting an outgoing sheet being fed simultaneously out from the support surface (36) or from the bottom of the stack to the feeder (33). <IMAGE> |
