Pre-oxidation of alloy powder coatings.

Corrosion- and erosion-resistant coatings are thermal spray deposited onto metallic substrates, especially Co- and Ni-containing alloys, by thermal spray depositing metal particles partially pre-oxidized prior to application the metal substrate to be protected. Coatings rich in desired protective oxide and reduced non-protective, voluminous oxides result.
