The telephone handset (2) consists of a keyboard (6), a display (7) and a microphone (9). The microphone has a directional convertor (11) which can be positioned to optimise the detection of the incoming sound signal (12) which is along the direction (14). Thus, the drivers voice directed towards the handset in the "hands free" position, is maximised.
