PURPOSE:To obtain the method for preventing the deterioration of the reference electrode of an oxygen sensor. CONSTITUTION:The method for preventing the deterioration of the reference electrode of an oxygen sensor is performed by using the following parts. A reference electrode 2 measures the oxygen potential of fused metal or alloy and is the system comprising metal particles and metal oxide particles. A container 1 of oxygen-ion conductive solid electrolyte contains the above described system and is connected to fused metal 5 or alloy. Lead materials 3 and 4 are connected to the reference electrode 2 and the fused metal 5 or alloy, respectively. A means 6 measures the potential difference between the lead materials 3 and 4. The oxygen sensor is formed of these parts. When the oxygen potential of the fused metal 5 or alloy is continuously measured by using the oxygen sensor, a DC voltage is applied and conducted across the lead materials 3 and 4. Thus, the life of the reference electrode can be elongated. |
