摘要 A coating (14) comprising an inert base material (15) having dispersed therein particles of metals (16) capable of reflecting or absorbing electromagnetic radiation. The coating process may be applied to lightweight gray goods (12) which may be used to fabricate articles of clothing or personnel protective equipment capable of attenuating electromagnetic radiation, thus reducing the radiation exposure of the wearer. In one embodiment, the particles are comprised of fine copper dust ranging in size from 5 to 50 microns, preferably applied within the base as the rate of 200,000 to 350,000 particles per square centimeter, and more preferably at the rate of 250,000 articles per square centimeter. One suitable base is polyvinylchloride, which provides an easy method of manufacture of flexible garments which provide a measure of protection against unwanted electromagnetic radiation.
