PURPOSE:To ensure that data is clearly printed without being influenced by the thickness of a sheet and also is printed efficiently, if an ink jet printer is used as a serial printer, in the ink jet printer. CONSTITUTION:An endless belt 5 for transfer is wound an area between the first and the second drive roller 3,4. Each tension roller 6, 7 is forced to come in contact with each area halfway through the shuttle path of the endless belt 5 between paired drive rollers 3, 4. In the neighborhood of the first drive roller 3, a printing head 2 for forming an ink droplet image on the surface of the endless belt 5 is provided. Next, a pressure contact roller 16 is pressed against the surface of the endless belt 5 toward the second drive roller 4, and the ink droplet image is transferred to a supplied sheet from the surface of the endless belt 5. The surface where the image is already transferred of the endless/belt 5 is cleaned using a cleaning means 21. |
