PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the subject yarn useful for tire cord, etc., having excellent thermal dimensional stability, high strength and high modulus of elasticity at low cost by drawing specific polyester yarn in a normal pressure- atmosphere containing a rare gas element. CONSTITUTION:Polyester yarn having >=0.7 intrinsic viscosity [eta] and <=100X10<-3> birefringence is drawn at 1.2 to 8.0 times draw ratio in a normal- pressure atmosphere containing >=60mol% one or more rare gas elements selected from argon, helium, neon, krypton, xenon and radon, consisting of high voltage impressed to a pair of electrodes 1 and 2 wherein the surface at least one side of the electrodes is coated with dialectic materials 3 and 4 to give the objective yarn having >=190X10<-3> birefringence as a high degree of orientation. |
