The method and the burner are applicable in machine building, metallurgy and construction, in particular, for coating deposition, alloying and metals' refining and production of amorphous microcrystalline materials. They improve the coating's density and regulate the size of the molten particles within a wide range. According to the method, a plasma jet - directed by a nozzle - is created and sustained by an arc discharge between an internal central fusible electrode, which continuously performs a linear forward motion and coaxially located a stationary external electrode. The burner includes a body (1) with a convergent-divergent nozzle (2), whose one pole is connected to the power supply source (3) and its other pole - to the central internal fusible electrode (10). The inner electrode (10) is actuated by a wire feeding mechanism (9) and is encompassed by a current supply bushing (5), which insulated from the body (1). Between the guide bushing (5) and the body (1), there are labyrinth-linked zones (13 and 14).<IMAGE>
