The method and apparatus are used in everyday commerce. The method and apparatus provide a single multi-functional electronic card for purchases, so that security in the event of misuse is improved. The card is either electronic or computerized, and contains data stored on a single card in electronic form, as well as data stored on every card used by the user. Additional security for this method is provided by the user's signature, which is only visibly reproduced on a window display of the card by the electronic memory when the user personally enters a secret code to activate the card, which has been prepared for use via selection, i.e., by calling up the data recorded for a given institution.
