A control unit 12 is designed to control the opening and closing of a water-injection valve 11 fitted to a water-injection pipe 10 which is connected to an exhaust pipe 2. The control unit 12 produces the signal for opening the valve under conditions which are predefined as a function of the rotational speed N epsilon and the degree of opening theta TH of the stopper, which are input respectively from a rotation sensor 8 and a stopper sensor 16, and opens the injection valve 11 to allow the injection pipe 10 to inject water into the exhaust pipe 2. The injection of water into the exhaust pipe 2 serves to lower the temperature of the gases in the exhaust pipe 2 in order to bring the pressure pulse conditions back into harmonic conditions. Consequently, the drop in power delivered in the low and medium-speed ranges may be corrected and at the same time the longevity of the sensors as well as their response may be enhanced by measuring the degree of opening theta TH of the stopper. <IMAGE> |
