PURPOSE:To obtain the number plate recognizing method for a vehicle so as to execute recognition within practical use time. CONSTITUTION:Since teaching pattern data for template matching are stored while being classified for each category, a use code 16 and a district land transport bureau can be recognized only by comparing the use code 16 and the district land transport bureau of a number plate 10 extracted from a picked-up image with the teaching pattern data in the relevant category. Therefore, time for recognizing the use code and the district land transport bureau code can be shortened.
