PURPOSE:To obtain the data decoder in which coding by the decoder for estimating an error rate is not required, the error rate is estimated with high accuracy even when an error is in existence, a likelihood close to an optimum value is obtained to improve the characteristic of soft decision decoding. CONSTITUTION:A reception signal is demodulated by a demodulator 34, an equalizer 36 eliminates distortion of a line to obtain an equalizing signal 37 and an error calculation device 39 calculates a square error sum 40 based thereon. An error rate estimate device 41 obtains error rates 42, 46 from the value and a likelihood calculator 43 obtains a likelihood 44 and a decoder 38 implements soft decision decoding from the likelihood 44 and an equalizing signal 37 to obtain decoding data. |
