PURPOSE:To italicize only a character string even in an image wherein the area of the character string and pattern areas are both present by performing an italicizing process in the image scanning range of the 1st area and inhibiting the italicizing process in the image scanning range of the 2nd areas. CONSTITUTION:This method is provided with a function which performs the italicizing process only for the character area and inhibits the italicizing process in the pattern areas 1-3 by shown in an output image 1. The character string is italicized in line units as shown by an output image 2 by clearing a counter each time a gap between character lines is detected and the image is italicized in character area units as shown by an output image 1 by clearing the counter only at the start position of the character area. The space between the character lines is detected as an area wherein no black picture element is present in the line projection in the character area. If the areas overlap with each other when italicized, the area 3 is moved to evade the overlap. The area which becomes blank as a result of the movement of the area 3 is interpolated with picture elements of ground level. |
