The method of the invention employs a supply device (1) including means (7) for jolting entrainment of the strip and at least two guide rollers (5, 6) together gripping the strip (2) during its displacements, a cutting press including at least one punch/die assembly (4), one of which is movable on a slide (43), this press being placed alternately in a position of opening in order to permit the advance of the strip, entrained by jolts by means of the supply device, between the punch and die which are separated from each other, and in a position of closure for cutting the strip by interaction of the punch and of the die, which method is characterised in that, after each jolting advance movement of the strip by means of the supply device (1) and before the closure of the cutting press, the rollers (5, 6) guiding the strip are separated from each other. <IMAGE>
