The present invention relates to a restraining device for animals, which operates by simple pressure upon introduction of the head of the animal (part 9) which has the effect of entraining a sliding piece (6) from above downwards. This movement has the effect of spacing apart a system consisting of two connecting rods (4) on the shafts (5) and (7) and of thus causing two mobile arms (3) to rotate about fixed axes (2). The locking is obtained by the alignment of the axes 5 and 7 (slightly negative alignment). The opening of the device is done by inverse action: movement of the sliding piece (6) by pressure of the lever (10) and of its guide wheel (11). This device can be fitted to any configuration of automatic machine for linear, circular, collective or individual restraint. <IMAGE>
