PURPOSE:To optimize the display format of a vertical writing document by displaying various kind of message prompting an operator on several left or right vertical lines of a display screen at least while editing the vertical writing document. CONSTITUTION:In a document processor preparing and editing a document while at least displaying the vertical writing document, various kind of message prompting an operator is displayed on several left or right vertical lines of a display screen at least while editing the vertical writing document. For example, message lines are secured on the left of a CRT display device. The grides for a vertical writing mode is displayed on the CRT display device to set it to a state where the vertical writing can be edited. Also, an area for displaying set format information (size of form, number of lines per page and number of rows per line) on the right side of the screen. By displaying the document in the vertical writing format, the number of characters displayable for each line of the vertical writing document can be increased. |
