The invention relates to a protective helmet, in particular for drivers of motor cars or motor cycles. The helmet consists of: - a supporting part (1) which is in the shape of a ring and at least one portion (2) of which is situated in front of the driver's eyes and has an aperture or is transparent; - an endless film (3) made from a transparent material; - motor means (5,6,7) to drive the film (3), continuously or in sequence, causing it to pass in front of the open or transparent portion of the supporting part; - and at least one means (11,14,17) for cleaning the film which is in contact with the external surface of the said film in order to clean this surface as the film passes in front of this means. <IMAGE>
