Waste waters which contain rhodium compounds, water-soluble organic phosphine derivatives and, possibly, other contaminants, for treatment, first receive an addition of an inorganic acid and are then extracted by a water-insoluble amine. According to a particular embodiment, the inorganic acid is used in the form of a salt of the amine used as extraction medium.
