TUNGSTEN OXIDE PHOTOCATALYST

A photocatalyst is provided to decompose completely organic materials such as acetic acid and acetaldehyde by exhibiting high photocatalytic activity even under the environment where visible light is irradiated and ultraviolet light is not irradiated. A tungsten oxide photocatalyst comprises Pt particles having a primary particle diameter of 3 to 20 nm supported on surfaces of tungsten oxide particles in the amount of 0.03 to 5 weight parts per 100 weight parts of the tungsten oxide particles. When a particle diameter of 50% accumulation from fine particle side of accumulative particle size distribution of an agglomerated particle diameter of the tungsten oxide particles is D50, the D50 is 0.01 to 5 mum, and the primary particle diameter of the tungsten oxide particles is 5 to 150 nm. The Pt particles are independently supported on the surfaces corresponding to at least portions of the surfaces of tungsten oxide particles in a state where the Pt particles are contacted with each other.
