2123896 9310833 PCTABS00022 A fast flush catheter valve (10) is disclosed having a valve body (22) with a longitudinal bore (28) therethrough for the flow of fluids through the valve. A tube (40) is mounted substantially transverse to the longitudinal bore (28) to substantially block the longitudinal bore. An actuating member (44) is mounted through the exterior of the valve body (22) so that one end of the actuating member is proximate the tube (40) and the second end extends beyond the exterior of the valve body. A resilient biasing diaphragm (56) connects the second end of the actuating member (44) to the exterior of the valve body (22). A capillary (42) is mounted through the tube (40) to provide a drip rate flow. Depressing the second end of the actuating member (44) deforms the tube (40) to produce a flush rate around the tube (40) and releasing the second end causes the resilient diaphragm (56) to return the actuating member (44) to a position where the tube (40) can elastically return to the longitudinal bore blocking position. The valve is constructed from a few components and is simply and inexpensively constructed.
