NONLINEAR OPTICAL MATERIAL AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To provide a nonlinear optical material having a large third-order nonlinear optical index and to provide its production method. CONSTITUTION:This nonlinear optical material is produced by the following process. First, Al fine particles are deposited on a substrate 3 by sputtering. During two seconds to the end of sputtering, oxygen gas is introduced to execute reactive sputtering to form Al2O3 layers as the shell of the fine particle. Then a LiF film is deposited thereon. This process to alternately deposit Al and LiF is repeated for 250 times to form a laminer structure in which fine particles 4 comprising Al core and Al2O3 shell are dispersed in an optically transparent material 5 comprising LiF.
