(i) Gas mixt. is contacted with a sieve modified with an agent comprising at least one weak acid or its salt or deriv. of at least one Gp. III, IV or V element to adsorb a component of the mixt.; (ii) sepg. loaded sorbent from non-adsorbed components and opt., (iii) desorbing the gas from the sieve, e.g. by heating or lowering pressure. Pref. modifying agent is H3BO3, NaH2PO2, Si(OH)4, etc. Sieve is e.g., mordenite, zeolite A, X or Y, etc. Pref. sieve is modified by suspending in a soln. of the agent followed by heat treating.
