<p>A solenoid valve comprising an axially elongated body member 1 having an axial bore therein in which is journalled a plunger member 11 for reciprocation in the bore under the influence of a magnetic field generated by a coil 16 carded by the body member, the body member also being provided with a chamber at or adjacent one end, the distal end, thereof in which the distal end of the plunger can move during reciprocation thereof, the distal end of the chamber being closed by a transverse wall 7 having an outlet 8 therein, the distal end of the plunger being adapted to co-operate with the outlet or the transverse wall so as to prevent or permit fluid to escape from the chamber, is characterised in that the body member 1 is tapered externally towards its distal end, the taper having an included angle of at least 0.75 DEG . The valve is used in a drop on demand ink jet printer to control the flow of ink to a nozzle outlet thereof. <IMAGE></p> |
