A volume of a transparent amorphous vitreous material such as crystal or glass has at least part of its outer surface coated to produce a dichroic decorative visual effect. It has at least two alternating transparent layers containing metallic and/or ceramic particles and a final opaque reflective layer of a metal such as titanium or chromium. The alternating layers are preferably 90-400 nm thick, and are made from silica (SiO 2) and titania (TiO 2) or magnesium fluoride (MgF 2) and chromium (Cr). |
