A rotary piston engine has a piston (3) rotating in a housing (1), and mounted on a shaft (4) which is located in the housing and sealed through a hole (6) in the housing wall. The piston has a raised segment (7) at its profile edge (8), which is rotatably sealed in the hole. The housing has an ignition chamber (9), and inlet (10) and outlet (11) valves with two sliders (12, 13) which seal against the piston in the closed position. The valves are arranged at the chamber circumference, with one (12) located before the ignition chamber and the other (13) after the chamber, according to the direction of rotation (5).
