<p>The reciprocating piston compressor contains at least two cylinders (1, 2, 3, 4) with pistons (5, 7 and 6, 8) arranged in pairs on a common axis (10 or 11) and coupled to a sliding block (15) by way of a yoke (14 and 22) joining their piston rods (12, 13 and 20, 21). The sliding block (15) is movably guided transversely to the common axis (10 and 11) by way of linear antifriction bearings between two parallel guide faces (18) of the yoke (14 and 22) and is supported on a crankpin (16) of a drive shaft (17). The yoke (14, 22) is formed by two separate sliding shoes (23), each one containing one of the guide faces (18) and each being connectable to one of the piston rods (12, 13, 20, 21), and by a flexibly deformable spring ring (26) enclosing these shoes. By means of the spring ring (26) which can be fitted onto the sliding shoes (23) under an initial tension, the sliding shoes (23) can be braced against the sliding block (15) by way of the antifriction bearings with a predetermined contact force, thereby producing a smooth transmission of the drive forces.
