Wood plugs or panels (12, 12') of different diameters and with different grain patterns are stored in a magazine (1). They are taken out individually and moved to the required position. Separate magazines are used for the different size plugs, and are quickly and easily set in a carriage (4) which slides to-and-fro in a rectangular frame (2) lined with ball bearing runners (3), the carriage being powered by a hydraulic ram (5, 6). Tools of different diameters are used to cut out the defects and the plugs, which have been smeared with glue, are pressed into the holes by a press.
