The cable end insertion device has a socket (6) in which the plug connector housing (1) is fitted and a relatively pivotable clamp arm (10) gripping the cable end, which is fitted with a contact (2) and a seal (3). A pin (14) is provided on the opposite side of the connector housing (1) to the cable (4), with an associated drive (13) providing a variable setting movement and force. The pin (14) can act as a contact, testing, stop or guide pin, cooperating with the cable contact. Alternate pins (14) can be activated as required in dependence on the inserted cable end. ADVANTAGE - Simple filtering of cable ends of differing geometric size.
