The cordless telephone has a base station (BS) and one or more associated mobile stations (MS), each of which is in the reception mode in its rest condition, with a search cycle scanning the associated radio channels. The telephone number is entered in a memory and transmitted via a free channel to establish a call connection, the received number checked at the reception station, to engage the channel. A data card reader (KL) is used to scan a data card (DK) carrying the telephone number, for entering it in the memory, with the number of successive times the data card (DK) is entered in the reader (KL) used to identify the number of mobile stations (MS) associated with the base station (BS). ADVANTAGE - Allows simple re-configuration.
